11.00am
Attracting Bees to your Vegetable Garden

Rodger Dewhurst of Gwenen Apiaries bought his first colony of bees at auction on The Lizard in 1972 and is now an international expert who advises the Government's Central Science Laboratories, National Bee Unit. He and his wife breed native bees for their Varroa and Disease resistance and support around a hundred colonies. Find out how to attract and support a healthy and industrious bee poplulation to your garden and vegetable patch, and take away a list of flowers and plants that bees will love.

12.00pm
Wild Food Foraging

Forager and ecologist, Caroline Davey is talking about wild food in Cornwall; it's importance to us historically and it's relevance today and in the future. The talk will include a slide show of edible wild foods found in West Cornwall, followed by cooking demonstrations using locally foraged herbs, vegetables and seaweeds. Caroline runs her own foraging business, Fat Hen, in West Cornwall

Fish Preparation Made Simple

Porthleven's very own John Strike won title of Britain's Best Fishmonger in 1989; became Freeman of the worshipful Company of Fishmongers and then received the Freedom of the City of London, before retiring from Quayside Fish in 2008; so he knows a thing or two about his subject.
